UFC News – After a close split decision loss to John Lineker in the UFC Fight Night 96 main event, John Dodson discusses the tight decision, why he believes he should have won the fight on the cards and what is next for him.

“I still look handsome as hell,” Dodson (18-8 MMA, 7-3 UFC) told MMAjunkie after a split-call loss to Lineker (29-7 MMA, 10-2 UFC) at Moda Center in Portland, Ore. “He came out looking like Frankenstein, so I don’t know what’s up.”

With his FS1-televised setback, Dodson compared himself to teammate Carlos Condit in a split-call loss to now-former champ Robbie Lawler in January at UFC 195.

“I did the whole Carlos Condit-Robbie Lawler thing, and sure enough, they gave it to Robbie Lawler again,” Dodson said.

Sure enough, Dodson strike stats trump Lineker’s, at least according to stat provider FightMetric, who had him landing 52 percent of his significant strikes to Lineker’s 28 percent. One big difference, however, was the Brazilian’s forward movement in contrast to Dodson’s backward counter-striking.

Lineker ultimately took home scores of 48-47 twice with one judge dissenting for Dodson by the same score.

Dodson can see how those judges might have thought he was on the losing end of the fight despite sneaking in effective counters over 25 minutes. But for the real story, he urged fans to look at the physical damage. He was limping from some hard leg kicks, while Lineker’s eye was swollen, his face marked up.
