Dan Henderson set to retire after Michael Bisping fight
Since a planned bout for the light heavyweight title with then-champion Jon Jones fell apart – along with the entire UFC 151 card – in September 2012, a UFC title shot has eluded Dan Henderson.
The MMA legend is lined up to fight middleweight champion Michael Bisping (29-7 MMA, 19-7 UFC) in a long-awaited rematch. The two met at UFC 100 after coaching opposite one another on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9. Henderson (32-14 MMA, 9-8 UFC) scored one of the most thunderous knockouts in UFC history and now looks to repeat the feat and capture a UFC title.
However, even if he wins the belt, Henderson said he’s ready to hang up the gloves.
“That is my plan, win or lose I’m ready mentally to retire. My body could still probably go another two, three years more. I’ve put it through enough. I’m ready to take it a little bit easier, but still be involved in MMA doing something a little bit different than fighting”
A date for the rematch has yet to be set in stone, but Henderson believes the bout – which was confirmed by UFC President Dana White – will take place in England.
“I think I’ve heard a number of things but I believe it could be in a stadium over there in Manchester,” Henderson said.
