This week could be Bernie Ecclestone’s last as F1 Chief

Bernie Ecclestone faced a fourth day of questioning at the high court.

F1 Update: FORMULA 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone could step down as chief executive of the sport as early as this week, according to reports.

The BBC say the 86-year-old could step down in the immediate future as Liberty Media is on the brink of completing its takeover of F1.

Their report says the US company believe Ecclestone can be eased aside despite suggestions the man who has bossed the sport for the last 40 years could stick around for another three years.

Liberty has already employed former 21st Century Fox executive Chase Carey as chairman of F1.

And their report adds American Sean Bratches, a former executive at television network ESPN, could be appointed to run the commercial side of the sport.

Ecclestone would be unlikely to accept the honorary role of life president if he steps down.

And it’s believed that even if he doesn’t step down this week, Ecclestone will be gone within a month.
