Honda is yet to decide on Malaysian Grand Prix engine upgrade
F1 News – Honda remains unsure about whether it will introduce an engine update in this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix.
The Japanese manufacturer used seven engine tokens for its latest upgrade, introduced in the Belgian GP, and expected to run one final update before the end of the season.
However, Honda F1 boss Yusuke Hasegawa says there are no guarantees that the new update will come at Sepang.
He pointed out a decision will only be made after taking to the track on Friday.
“We are not 100 percent certain if we will install any power unit updates for this race, but we’ll look to make our final decision at the track based on the balance of performance and reliability,” he said.
Replacing engine components could result in grid penalties for Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button, as they have both used most of their allocated components.
Honda, however, is unlikely to want to face grid penalties in its home grand prix in Japan next week, so the update may have to wait if it’s not introduced in Malaysia.
