Football News – Wayne Rooney has backed Marcus Rashford to become a real star for both Manchester United and England if he continues upon his upward trajectory.

Speaking to MUTV’s Thursday Focus show, the 30-year-old raved about Rashford’s attitude to the game, believing the Red Devils starlet to be different to most players his age.

The 18-year-old has been called a hard worker who wants to learn, and Rooney had nothing but praise for the player set to enjoy a glorious future at Old Trafford.

Speaking to MUTV, Rooney said: “He’s incredible.

“Us as players, we weren’t sure whether he was ready to be thrown into the game. But he got thrown in [against Midjtylland], and since then he hasn’t looked back.

“I think his attitude is fantastic. He wants to work and he wants to learn.

“You see some of the younger players nowadays in football, and they don’t have that attitude. It’s great to see [Rashford does], and he’s reaping the rewards.

“He’s some talent, and if he keeps going he’ll be a real star for this club and England.”

Playing and training alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Rooney himself, Rashford has two mentors who have been two of the best strikers in Europe over the past decade.

And although the United skipper did admit to aiding Rashford at times, he is happy to sit back and watch the youngster simply express himself in the style he has been doing.

He added: “With players like that you just want to let them play. You don’t want to try and teach them how to play football, because they can play football. But you want them to just play and have that feeling to express themselves.

“And with Marcus he is expressing himself, and he is scoring goals, and it’s great for the team.
