Steven Gerrard confident on Man U bagging Europa League this season

Football News: Steven Gerrard believes that Manchester United have what it takes to win the Europa League this season.

The Red Devils are currently gearing up for the first leg of their last-32 clash against Saint-Etienne on Thursday night as Jose Mourinho’s men look to take a step closer towards reaching the last 16.

The competition for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season means that Manchester United’s best hope of Champions League qualification could in fact come from winning the Europa League this term.

The Red Devils are sixth in the table as they bid to break back into the top four in Mourinho’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.

And former Liverpool captain Gerrard feels that Manchester United would be wise to focus on trying to win the Europa League this season.

Speaking on BT Sport on Saturday night, Gerrard said: “There are no guarantees for United that they are going to finish in the top four so I think they’ll give it everything they’ve got to try and win the Europa League.

“Liverpool did it and came very close last season. They’re capable of winning it.”

Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season.
