Ronald Koeman speaks up regarding Ireland’s maltreatment of James McCarthy
Football News – Everton boss Ronald Koeman has hit out at the Republic of Ireland for their treatment of James McCarthy during the international break.
The 25-year-old midfielder hadn’t fully recovered from his groin injury when he was picked by ROI manager Martin O’Neill to play in World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Moldova.
Upon returning to Goodison Park, McCarthy is in doubt for the weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City and Koeman is furious.
Koeman said: “Our medical staff say he was massively overloaded.
“I like to have a lot of international players as it is a very good experience for them. But you like to have a little bit more understanding for a player who has been out injured for five to six weeks.
“Play him for 45 minutes, 60 minutes, but not 95 minutes. Then the second time 80 minutes — you are killing the player.
“Ireland know what I think about it.”
