Ragnar Klavan impresses John Aldridge
Football Update – Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has heaped praised on defender Ragan Klavan following his performance in the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside Derby.
Manager Jurgen Klopp elected to partner Klavan alongside Dejan Lovern in the centre of defence, with fellow summer signing Joel Matip absent.
Klavan repaid the German’s faith playing a big role in the victory, managing to stem the influence of Toffees’ striker Romelu Lukaku.
“I thought Ragnar Klavan was excellent at Goodison – and he has been for the last two games,” he wrote in the Liverpool Echo.
“He impressed me in pre-season.
“It’s great for us because Joel Matip has been brilliant but he’s been injured and Klavan’s come in and he’s a real, no-nonsense 1980s type of defender, very, very good and he played brilliantly on Monday.”
The victory at Goodison saw Liverpool move into second position on the table, sitting six points behind leaders Chelsea.
Klavan’s impact on the Reds’ defence was strong as he led the team in interception with three, to go along with seven clearances throughout the match.
