Pressure is on for Paul Pogba
Football News – The Manchester United midfielder has endured a mixed start to the season since becoming the world’s most expensive player with Deschamps quick to defend him.
Paul Pogba was at the centre of France’s preparation for their 2018 World Cup qualification double-header as Les Bleus trained at Clairefontaine.
The Manchester United midfielder is central to Didier Deschamps’ plans to rebuild his side after the heartache from the Euro 2016 final.
The France chief has sprinkled several new faces in his current squad with uncapped Alphonse Areola and Aymeric Laporte included.
Nabil Fekir, Kevin Gameiro, Djibril Sidibe and Layvin Kurzawa were also not included in the French squad at last summer’s tournament.
Deschamps has highlighted Pogba as key to his side’s hopes in the future, but insists the expectations are currently too high after Manchester United paid a world-record £90million fee to take him to Old Trafford from Juventus.
“He has changed his club team and needs to find his bearing with his new teammates. With Paul, we always expect more. When he does something neutral, often it is not enough.
“He is someone we expect to make assists in every game — there is an expectation that is too large.
“Paul is OK in his own head. He knows what he wants.”
