Football News – NICKY BUTT believes Marcus Rashford’s progression is a great thing for not only Manchester United but for the likes of Liverpool too.

The United legend is currently head of the club’s academy and oversaw Rashford’s speedy development last season.

The 18-year-old burst onto the scene in February after earning a chance in the first-team under Louis van Gaal.

And the striker has not looked back, demonstrating his goalscoring prowess, calm shoulders and maturity.

Having already earned his place in England’s senior set-up, Butt has nothing but high praise for United’s latest prodigy.

“He’s started off on fire,” Butt told talkSPORT. “At 18 years of age, representing England, playing regularly for Manchester United, it’s a massive accolade for him and he doesn’t need me to big him up.

“His football speaks for itself, but as a person he’s a really good person and someone that we want to be our shining light.

“He’s someone we want to put in front of people and say ‘this is the kind of people we create in our academy’.

“He’s respectful, he speaks to the press in the right way, he represents what we believe is right for young players coming through – that’s the most important thing for us.”

Rashford has been a bright spark at Old Trafford for Jose Mourinho already this term, and he’s been called up to the international squad during the current break.

The youngster is being tipped to be England’s next top talent, and Butt insists all fans should be rooting for the Red Devils star.

Butt added: “Whether you’re a Liverpool person or a United person, it’s great to see your own coming through – and an English person as well – that’s only a good thing in my eyes.”

Despite Butt indicating rivalries should be put aside in the case of Rashford, Mourinho will want him causing havoc on his return to Manchester.

United face Liverpool at Anfield on Monday October 17, with the forward expected to start against Jurgen Klopp’s men, having already scored three Premier League goals this term.
