Felipe Massa ends retirement, re-joins Williams
F1 Update: Only one month ago, Felipe Massa said his goodbyes to Formula 1 and Williams. In November, he celebrated his last Brazil Grand Prix in a very emotional way. Well, only a few weeks later, the Brazilian driver decided to unretire and rejoins Williams.
Massa will team-up with 18-year-old rookie Lance Stroll for the 2017 season as his 2016 partner, Valtteri Bottas, has signed with Mercedez. The Brazilian, a veteran with 250 GPs under his belt, will help in the development of his team’s car.
“I always intended to race somewhere in 2017, but Williams is a team close to my heart and I have respect for everything it is trying to achieve,” said the unretired Massa.
Brazil hosts a Formula 1 GP in 2017
Throughout the whole 2016 season, there was uncertainty surrounding the Brazilian GP. The sport’s big boss, Bernie Ecclestone, has threatened to cancel the deal that guarantees the race until 2020. Ecclestone demands more financial security from the Brazilian organizers. Back in May, said that the 2016 next race in São Paulo could “be for the last time.”
In September, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) released the 2017 schedule. There was an enigmatic text next to São Paulo: “subject to confirmation.” Nevertheless, Brazil will host the race for at least one more year.
