Conte aims for better leverage over Chelsea contract
Football Update: Principally, Conte wants as much control over Chelsea’s transfers as possible. Currently transfers are managed by director Marina Granovskaia and technical director Michael Emenalo.
There’s good reason why Conte wants greater control over which players join the club, following what happened in January. As reported in the Times:
The Italian is understood to have complained that Chelsea sold three experienced first-team players during the January transfer window in Oscar, Branislav Ivanovic and John Obi Mikel without recruiting any replacements.
He has been astonished at his employers’ reply that they had been replaced by three returning loanees — Nathan Ake, Kenedy and Charly Musonda.
Sticking the knife in, the situation at Chelsea is compared to how the Manchester clubs act in the transfer market.
The Times’ article tails off noting that Conte believes there’s “a lack of financial backing from the club particularly compared to the transfer outlay of both Manchester clubs last summer.”
The final point is that Conte wants to sign four players this summer.
